Is a motor an electric machine? Within One minute to distinguish electric motor, “máda” (motor), and generator .

“Electric machine” (diànjī) is the broader call that includes both electric motors (máda) and generators and “máda” is just another name for an electric motor that many people often get confused about it.So i write it that explains the working principle of electric machines, their classifications, the differences between DC and AC motors, as well as the practical use of motors in machinery, automobiles, and small home appliances(Most use the Planetary DC Gear Motors).

When many people buy machinery or small appliances, they can not understand the difference

between a “máda” and an electric motor. Today we’ll make it clear.

You are advised to remember the key point that “Electric machine” is the general call which includes electric motors (máda) and generators, and “máda” is just another name for an electric motor

The “máda” we talk about is mainly used to output power.Whether we operate machinery or drive the car, they all depend on the power provided by the motor.A good motor runs stronger, faster, overtake more steadily and work more efficiently.

The electric machine is an electromagnetic device that follows the law of electromagnetic induction to convert and transfer electrical energy. In circuit diagrams, the letter M refer to motor (electric motor, i.e., máda), which converts electrical energy into mechanical energy to drive equipment. The letter G refer to generator, which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. In daily life,we know the hydropower, thermal power, and wind power that all rely on generators to make electricity.

Below is the detailed classification of electric machine.

1. By power source used: DC machines, AC machines.DC motors are very widely used in electric shaver, hair dryer, toy, audio/video equipment, and all kinds of small appliances.

2. By structure and working principle: DC motors, asynchronous motors, synchronous motors.

3.By starting and running method: Capacitor-start, capacitor-run, capacitor-start-and-run, split-phase single-phase asynchronous motors.

4. By application: Drive motors, control motors.

5. By rotor structure: Squirrel-cage asynchronous motors, wound-rotor asynchronous motors.

6.By operating speed:High speed motor, low speed motor, constant speed motor, variable speed motor.Low speed motor include gear reduction motor ,electromagnetic-reduction motors, torque motors, claw-pole synchronous motors, etc.

In final

· Motor (máda) is  electric motor and only consumes electricity and outputs mechanical power.

· Electric machine (diànjī) is electric motor plus generator which can either use electricity to produce motion, or convert mechanical energy into electricity.
